It is the policy of Scunthorpe RUFC (the ‘Club’) to protect children and young people under the age of 18 playing youth rugby from possible abuse. The Club’s Code of Conduct set out below has been written for all youth rugby coaches and other youth rugby volunteers at the Club, to remind or inform them of their responsibilities and the minimum standards of behaviour required of them. All youth rugby coaches and other youth rugby volunteers involved at the Club are required to familiarise themselves with the Code of Conduct and abide by it.

The Code of Conduct may be amended from time to time by the Club. A copy of the latest Code of Conduct can be found on the Club’s website (www.ScunthorpeRugby.com). Allegations of a breach of the Club’s Code of Conduct for Youth Rugby Coaches and Other Youth Rugby Volunteers will be investigated according to Scunthorpe and RFU disciplinary procedures.

As a member of staff or a volunteer at our club or activity, we'd ask you to agree to: *

Implement our safeguarding policy and procedures

Report any concerns about or allegations of abuse or poor practice to our welfare officer

Listen and act upon to any concerns that parents or young people might have (support is available through your Safegurding Lead))

Consider your behaviour - do not engage in any behaviour that constitutes any form of abuse

Respect your position of trust and maintain appropriate boundaries and relationships with young people.

Commit to your personal development, and engage in the training opportunities provided or recommended by the club

Keep children in your sessions safe by supervising appropriately, using safe methods and techniques and by putting children's safety first

Make sure you've got appropriate staffing ratios of adult to participant before the session begins

Ensure equipment is fit for purpose, safe to use and accessible

Respect children's trust and rights whilst being honest and open with them

Stop play if an injury happens, administer minor first aid and call for help when necessary

Use constructive and positive methods of developing children's skills, without humiliating or harming them

Behave appropriately on line and on social media in accordance with our on line safety and acceptable use policy challenge and address instances of poor, negative, aggressive or bullying behaviour young people amongst young people

lead by example when it comes to good sportsmanship, positive behaviour and commitment to Rugby Union

develop positive relationships with parents communicate and catch up with them regularly about their child's development

make our club a friendly and welcoming place to be

Engage with the club committee, in both providing constructive feedback, and ensuring you read all relevant communication/updates from the committee/club

As a member of SRUFC, we understand you have the right to: *

enjoy the time you spend with us and be supported in your role

be informed of our safeguarding and reporting procedures and what you need to do if something isn't right

have access to ongoing training in all aspects of your role

be listened to

be involved and contribute towards decisions within the club or activity

be respected and treated fairly by us and our governing body

feel welcomed, valued and not judged based on your race, gender, sexuality or ability

be protected from physical or emotional abuse from children or parents and be supported to resolve conflicts

Roles and Responsibilities *

Any monies received will be handed to the The Treasurer/Ass Treasurer/Chair/Vice Chair

Any Potential Sponsorship deal to be discussed with Chair before anything is offered or finalised

Any Injuries to be documented on appropriate Injury forms

Kit and equipment is to be requested direct through kit co-ordinator or First Aid Leads

Ensure the ground and facility are kept in a decent state of repair

Report any issues through the Chair/Vice Chair

Discuss the addition of new coaches/volunteers with the Chair or Welfare officers before allowing them to volunteer (recruitment processes must be followed, including a DBS check, before any volunteers can start)

We expect all of our staff and volunteers to follow the behaviours and requests set out in this code.If any staff member or volunteer behaves in a way which contradicts any of the points set out above, we'll address the problem straight away and aim to resolve the issue. Continued issues and repeated breaches of this code may result in us taking disciplinary action against you with the involvement of governing bodies and ultimately your dismissal from the organisation.
